About Lydia Hawk
Welcome to Lydia Hawk Elementary!
We are the home of the Hawks and serve preschool through 5th grade in Lacey, WA. At Lydia Hawk, our mission is learning for all, whatever it takes. Our teachers actively design instruction to meet the needs of our diverse community. We hold our students and ourselves to high expectations, and along with academic skills, we aim to provide all our students with the competence, courage, and character to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
Our school follows SOAR Expectations of Safety, Ownership, Aim high, and Respect. Following these expectations and practicing leadership habits, staff and students work together to make our school a great place to learn and grow.

Goals & School Improvement Plan
Academic Gap Goal
50% of students with disabilities in grades 4 and 5 will move up at least 1 level in the math SBA in the spring of 2025 as compared to the spring of 2024.
Behavioral or Social-Emotional Learning Gap Goal
50% of Multi-Language Learners (MLL) in grades 4 and 5 will move up at least 1 level in English language arts SBA in the spring of 2025 as compared to the spring of 2024.
School Improvement Plan
Building History
Lydia Hawk Elementary was built in 1959 on 14.7 acres. It is located at 7600 5th Avenue SE in the Tanglewilde neighborhood of Lacey. The 41,772 square foot building includes 22 instructional spaces, plus 12 portable classrooms.
- In 1989, the gymnasium was built.
- In 2000, the original building was completely demolished and rebuilt (excluding the newer gym), and a play shed was built, utilizing local bond and state assistance funds.
Our school was named after Lydia Jane Hawk Mayes, born in 1862, daughter of John Hawk, who was the founder of the Hawks Prairie area of Thurston County.
